What’s going on this month in the hive?
What tasks do I need to do to ensure hive health?
January in the hive
If the weather is hot, you may see a curtain of bees cooling themselves on the exterior of the hive.
Beekeeper Tasks
- Continue health inspections of your hive (including for wax moth in honey supers – see picture at right).
- Add more honey super to hives. Ready-to-go options are available from us online or instore: https://www.hiveworld.co.nz/product/ready-to-go-hive-supers/
- Ensure bees have access to a good water supply. A great way to do this is to use a shallow container with stones or similar in that bees can stand on to access the water without drowning.
