What’s going on this month in the hive?
What tasks do I need to do to ensure hive health?
February in the hive
- The colony’s growth is diminishing.
- Drones are still around but activity slows as the nectar flow slows down.
Beekeeper Tasks
- Harvest and extract honey.
- Watch for honey robbing by wasps or other bees. You may need to put on an entrance reducer or use a Hivegate to protect your hive: https://www.hiveworld.co.nz/product/hivegate/
- Check all brood frames for AFB.
- Ensure there is a good water supply.
- KEEP CHECKING YOUR VARROA LEVELS – the beekeepers number one job. Prepare your treatment options to apply once you have harvested your honey. More on this next month…
