What tasks do I need to do to ensure hive health?

February in the hive

  • The colony’s growth is diminishing.
  • Drones are still around but activity slows as the nectar flow slows down.

Beekeeper Tasks

  • Harvest and extract honey.
  • Watch for honey robbing by wasps or other bees.  You may need to put on an entrance reducer or use a Hivegate to protect your hive:  https://www.hiveworld.co.nz/product/hivegate/
  • Check all brood frames for AFB.
  • Ensure there is a good water supply.
