Extracting from Top Bar Hives brings its own challenges!  For those of you who have embraced this fascinating, more natural method of beekeeping, take a look at this.  Thomas Apiculture supplies a simple and effective innovative solution for extracting honey from raw combs and top bar hive combs.

Placed in an upright position in a fixed cage the combs are compressed from the top to the bottom, naturally provoking the expulsion of wax capping and the extraction of the honey. As opposed to the crushing of the comb as usually done the perpendicular compression of cells allows a perfect separation of honey and wax.  The pressed wax at the end of the cycle contains very little residual honey and the extracted honey is clear of wax particles.
