Catching the perfect swarm:
This little beauty was on a small tree and walked straight into my new hive. No skill required!
Firstly, I set my hive up ready by the overloaded sapling… (always have a basic hive kit handy https://www.hiveworld.co.nz/product/basic-hive-starter-pack/ )
Secondly, I gave the tree a gentle shake and quite a few bees dropped onto the corflute ramp I had placed leading into the hive.
The scout bees obviously liked what they saw and the bees just poured up the ramp into the hive – a textbook hiving! Cool to see the tree appearing again!
All off the tree and the last bees piling on in. During all this time there was a large number of bees standing beside the entrance to the hive with their backsides up pointing the way into the hive.
It was a truly amazing sight to witness such an orderly housewarming! The whole thing took about half an hour. This was my first experience of catching the perfect swarm.
